Serena Gandini is a visual artist born in Rome in 2001, where she lives and works. Her practice focuses on the relationship between the body, clothing, and identity, investigating the aesthetic, social, and cultural codes that contribute to the construction and perception of the self.

Through the practice of self-portraiture, Gandini uses her own body as a tool for observation and image-making, questioning processes of self-representation and internalized models. The body and clothing become elements through which established forms, norms, and codes are challenged, functioning as devices for exploring identity.

Photography serves as the starting point for a process of reworking in which images are re-photographed, manipulated, and altered through painterly interventions. The photographic print thus becomes an active surface on which the body is constructed, fragmented, and redefined through layers, formal structures, and recurring chromatic elements. Among these, yellow assumes a recurring role, emerging as both a perceptual element and a manifestation of an internal and subjective dimension.

Her practice unfolds in the space between self-representation and construction, individual experience and collective codes, approaching photography as a tool for observing, transforming, and redefining identity.

She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome.
